We just finished up our latest brew label design for Grimm Brothers Brewhouse’s Master Thief, and we have to say it’s one of our favorites.
We are big art geeks at Tenfold, and you may have noticed that we’ve included an homage to Jacques Louis David’s Napoleon Crossing the Alps. And if you know your history too, you’ll know that Napoleon was responsible for ending the Holy Roman Empire (now Germany). It was shortly after the fall of the Holy Roman Empire that the Grimm Brothers began collecting their famous fairy tales throughout former Empire. Also, the logo for the Grimm Brothers Brewhouse uses an eagle, which has been the symbol of Germany since the Holy Roman Empire. We thought it would be fun to make this connection (Napoleon as the Master Thief) for anyone who would be paying attention.
Yeah, I guess we are history geeks too.
If you are not familiar with the Master Thief story, the thief is challenged by the count to steal the count’s horse, bed sheets, and the wedding ring off the countess’ finger. Napoleon’s horse is now the stolen horse, Napoleon’s cape is now the stolen bed sheets, and Napoleon’s extended finger now bears the stolen wedding ring.
Master Thief will be available at the Grimm Brother’s taproom starting this weekend.
