The 2011 Governor’s Colorado Tourism Conference is happening here in Loveland. Over 400 attendees are visiting our fair city to discuss all facets of the tourism industry including lodging, attractions, ski resorts, gaming, retail, and destination marketing organizations. This is a pretty big deal for us.
In preparation for the event, the City of Loveland Historic Preservation Commission headed up a project with The Tenfold Collective and other city partners to design and produce a historic walking tour booklet featuring downtown Loveland. This booklet will be given to the attendees of the conference to introduce them to the historic attractions of America’s Sweetheart City.
The piece will live after the conference as an ongoing promotion for downtown Loveland.
The team at the City of Loveland Historic Preservation Commission put together two tours: a historic buildings route, and a historic homes route. They left the design, production, and format up to Tenfold. The freedom of the project made it a fun one for us.
Tenfold illustrated the cover which uses many of the homes and buildings on the tour. Though the illustration is stylized, the distinct architectural details are easy to make out and fun to find.
The interior spread walks through an illustrated history of Loveland. The timeline starts with Mariano Medina purchasing land near the Big Thompson river in 1858, and goes through the 1960s when Lego, HP, and Teledyne moved their manufacturing facilities here.
The interior spread folds up to reveal the walking tour map. A 40 page book is saddle stitched into the cover allowing the map to remain viewable while the pages are turned, which is helpful when you are trying to walk, read, and way-find simultaneously.
This project has a personal exciting twist because the Tenfold office is actually on the tour:
A big thanks to the City of Loveland Historic Preservation Commission and all of the city partners who let us be a part of this project! You are all part of why we love it here.
